The unresolved claims of the PRC to the island nation of Taiwan, and the ambiguous international position into which Taiwan has been forced by Beijing's attempts to apply diplomatic pressure on Taipei to reunify with the mainland, has been a source of tension in Northeast Asia for the past half century. This research project will focus on Chinese discussions of Taiwan and Taiwan's discussions of the mainland, as well as the economic dynamic in integrating the two countries, in order to see how the people in the two countries intend to solve the problem of Taiwan's future status.

Qualifications: Should be interested in China and Taiwan and speak and write fluent Chinese.
