Robin Marsh, Senior Researcher
ISSI
Applications for Spring 2024 are closed for this project.
We are generating quantitative and qualitative data from several research instruments to understand the multiple impacts of women-led organic vegetable gardening in Western Uganda. These instruments include 24 hour recall and food security surveys, general demographics, gardening and welfare questionnaires, and narrative stories. This spring semester we will begin data analysis using statistical and qualitative data software packages. The team consists of researchers at UC Berkeley and in Uganda.
The results will help to improve the program and raise visibility and replication of the program components throughout East Africa.
Role: This is a student who has good skills in data analysis, as he/she will be expected to:
1) download data from collection software for analysis using such packages as STATA or SPSS, or NVIVO or Dedoose for qualitative data,
2) translate the results into well designed tables and charts,
3) assist with interpretation of the results.
The student will be part of a research team and will meet weekly with that team. The URAP student will be supervised by Dr. Robin Marsh, ISSI, UC Berkeley.
Qualifications: 1) An academic major in the social sciences, preferably economics, statistics or sociology, but flexible,
2) Preferably some prior experience working on data analysis for primary data sets.
3) Knowledge of statistical packages to include STATA, SPSS, R, among others.
