Integrative Biology
Applications for Fall 2024 are closed for this project.
Scientific illustration is art in the service of science by drawing, painting, or rendering images of scientific subjects to accurately inform and communicate sciences. Research in fossil fishes (paleoichthyology) is at the junction of paleontology and ichthyology, and therefore, possesses characteristics of both —-- the incomplete nature of fossil preservations and the sophisticated delicacy of fish anatomy. To convey the research result to the audience that a pair of trained eyes in paleoichthyology observe, an artistic touch is genuinely helpful. I am herein looking for a talented artist who is interested in learning paleontology and fish anatomy, as well as applying their artistic skills in the research of paleoichthyology.
Qualifications: The chosen candidate will gain training in vertebrate anatomy and, if interested, microscopic photographing. Upon discussion and instruction, the chosen candidate will perform black and white illustration of fossil and extant fishes (traditional or digital), and maybe reconstructional illustration if desired.
