The Archaeological Research Facility (ARF) at UC Berkeley has a collection of literature and assessments related to Native American cultural heritage and the history of archaeological work in the western US states. The goal of this project is to catalog the collection of ARF literature and reports in order to archive and steward the collection for long-term preservation, while also ensuring the confidentiality of sensitive information. Additional ARF-related materials will also be digitized and cataloged for long-term archival preservation.
Role: The primary task students will undertake is adding citations to the Zotero bibliographic database and indexing these materials. Additional tasks may include assessing the size and scope of the collections; developing an annotated bibliography of the materials; and cataloging the collection of ARF Colloquium posters.
By undertaking this project, students will learn practical archival skills, while also cultivating archival research skills; gain a deeper understanding of the Department of Anthropology's history and archaeological research; and document the results of this fieldwork for long-term preservation, with regard to maintaining the confidentiality of sensitive information.
Qualifications: Familiarity with cultural history and the geography of the 18th to 20th centuries. Ability to read cursive handwriting.
