Closed (3) The Rise of China

Applications for fall 2021 are now closed for this project.

China has, since the Global Financial Crisis and particularly since the rise of Xi Jinping in 2012, clearly become a major power in the world. There are various perspectives on this rise, but what I am interested in here is the range of Chinese perspectives. The apprenticeship will consist of reading selected Chinese language selections on contemporary political and economic developments in Greater China, writing brief book reports and discussing the readings in a series of biweekly meetings with other apprentices. Application is limited to those fluent in Chinese, whether jiantizi or fantizi.
