Simone Vouet was an emigré artist in Rome in the 1620s before he returned to France and became a major painter in Paris, most notably serving Anne d'Autriche, the mother of Louis III. This research project concerns the artist's production in Rome, most notably his execution of an altarpiece in Saint Peter's Basilica. The research will contribute to an essay on "Vouet and Italy" for a catalogue accompanying an exhibition of Simone Vouet's paintings and drawings at the Legion of Honor Museum, San Francisco (May 18 to August 18, 2024).
Role: Bibliographic research and translation. Image acquisition and permissions. Learning about publishing in a museum exhibition catalogue.
Qualifications: Reading knowledge of French and/or Italian. Schedule requires an early commitment because the deadline for submission of the essay is March 2023.
Hours: to be negotiated
