BCSP01: Investigating the effects of psilocybin on visual perception and attention in healthy adults, and BCSP02: Investigating the effects of psilocybin on neuroplasticity in healthy older adults

Michael Silver, Professor
Optometry

Applications for Spring 2026 are closed for this project.

The UC Berkeley Center for the Science of Psychedelics (BCSP) is conducting clinical trials with human subjects to investigate how psilocybin impacts the human brain and mind. We are currently running two FDA-regulated trials that aim to provide mechanistic insights that may inform the development of future treatments for mental health disorders. Our current studies include: BCSP01: Investigating the effects of psilocybin on visual perception and attention in healthy adults, and BCSP02: Investigating the effects of psilocybin on neuroplasticity in healthy older adults.

Role: The undergraduate student will support the clinical operations and participant pipeline for both protocols under the supervision of study staff. Responsibilities include monitoring our recruitment inbox, organizing participant data, reviewing REDCap surveys to identify eligible participants, conducting initial phone screenings with participants, and participating in check-in meetings to report on recruitment and progress. Other duties may be assigned based on interest and availability.

Qualifications: We are seeking undergraduates who enjoy interacting with people, are meticulous and detail-oriented, and are able to maintain strict confidentiality regarding sensitive participant information. This position is ideal for undergraduate students who are considering a career in neuroscience, psychology, or health-related disciplines. While much of this position can be completed remotely, students are welcomed and encouraged to engage with supervisory staff and other team members in person when possible.
