Writing in Chicanx Latinx Alumni Legacies and Leadership at CAL

This project will be researching the various roles that Chicanxs and Latinxs alumni have played on the UC Berkeley campus. The research project will uplift, highlight and recognize 1) Chicanx Latinx alumni 2) their various intersectional identities focusing on race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, immigration, class and regionality 3)and generational differences.
The research project's goal is have a collection of Chicanx Latinx Cal alumni interviews that would be part of the Legacy and Voces of Chicanx Latinx at CAL. Students will go be working with director of CLSD to select CaL alumni to be part of short interviews for the UCB CLAA monthly talks.
Through a series of readings, videos and workshops that focus on the the role of story telling, setting the hxstorical context and creating a set of questions that will document the process and the role of Chicanx Latinx alumni at CAL. This URAP project is looking for a one semester commitment
The legacy project overall is working towards creating a portal that will live at the Ethnic Studies Library and be shared with student, alumni and community members to listen to alumni's stories of how they got into Cal, how they made it through Cal and what they are currently doing now.
This is a collaborative project between - Chicanx Latinx Student Development office (CLSD) and the Ethnic Studies Library.
Role: The students will be reading various reports on the Chicanx Latinx communities at CAL, research on individual Latinx alumni. The students will be working closely with Lupe Gallegos-Diaz, director of the Chicanx Latinx Student Development Office.
And we hope to showcase some of Chicanx Latinx alumni at the end of the year Storytelling Gathering on CL alumni.
Qualifications: The student group will be meeting every other week on Tuesday evenings from 5:00pm-6:00pm at the Latinx Student Resource Center. And group will start on September 3rd 2024.
It would be desirable to have Chicanx/Latinxs who are bi-lingual and bi-cultural but not necessary.
Preferable for second and third years students but all can apply.
