Design and Signage in the University & Jepson Herbaria
Klara Scharnagl, Curator
University and Jepson Herbaria
Applications for Fall 2024 are closed for this project.
The University and Jepson Herbaria are a natural history museum on campus, home to over 2 million dried plant and fungal specimens. The Herbaria currently suffer from outdated/faded signage. We seek one or two creative individuals to help us spruce up our image and signage while simultaneously learning about our natural history collections and management. URAP apprentices will work directly with Klara Scharnagl and Sonia Nosratinia on this project.
Role: URAP apprentices will be responsible for: Updates to signage within Herbarium and the maps in the collections (with regions indicated); updates to the banner above the door. URAP apprentices will also be invited to brainstorm a new logo for the Herbaria, and to work on a window display outside the Herbaria. URAP apprentices will learn about natural history collections, organization, management, and outreach, with a specific focus on plants and fungi. Students will also learn a lot about plant and fungal family names.
Qualifications: Creative and artistic. Good with digital design software. Interest in natural history collections, specifically Herbaria.
