This project research the history of modern Chinese media, broadly construed, that crosses over photography, film and theater, architecture, and television. I locate the history in late to mid twentieth century China, with transcontinental traffic across the Pacific and the Atlantic. The project engages intellectual, technological, and aesthetic history and welcome students regardless of their disciplines.
Role: bibliographical research on primary and secondary research material
scanning, photographing, and formatting archival material
assistance with oral interviews
Qualifications: Student can come from any discipline but must demonstrate a strong interest in film, theater, art, architecture history, Asian and Asian American studies, and history; they should also have experience with bibliographic research in the humanities. Student researcher should enjoy archival and bibliographic work, and be organized and independent. Reading Knowledge of Chinese required, knowledge in architecture, wireless technology, Japanese, and German a plus.
Hours: 9-11 hrs
Off-Campus Research Site: We will be meeting remotely.
