LGBTQ+ AGING
Angie Perone, Professor
Social Welfare
Closed. This professor is continuing with Spring 2024 apprentices on this project; no new apprentices needed for Fall 2024.
This project will involve two different mini-projects:
(1) HOMES Survey:(LGBTQ+/SGL) Housing, Health, and Services for Older Adults. HOMES is a community-based participatory research (CBPR) project with LGBTQ+ / same-gender-loving older adults. It uses survey data from LGBTQ+ older adults and information from community partners from 10+ organizations in Michigan to examine community supports and gaps in health, well-being, and housing (as well as experiences of discrimination). Data collection has ended, and the project is currently in the data analysis and dissemination phase. While much of the data collected is from Michigan, we want to contextualize this within national data. Students will be assisting with data analysis and dissemination, including helping draft reports and presentations.
(2) Multigenerational LGBTQ+ Programs Scoping Review: This project builds on a prior project examining scholarly literature about multigenerational LGBTQ+ programs. This project focuses on reviewing non-scholarly sources. In particular, students will systematically review websites and reports from LGBTQ+ centers / organizations about multigenerational programming and incorporate information into a spreadsheet. This project will be working closely with a national LGBT+ community partner (SAGE USA). Students may have an opportunity to contribute to one or more scholarly publications on this project.
Role: Students could help with coding, data analysis, community meetings (remotely), literature reviews/searches, community reports, conference presentations, and/or scholarly publications.
