An Empirical Investigation of Sustainability in Durable Goods Markets

The project will take a deep dive into competition of durable good markets (e.g., the automobile industry) and its environmental implications by analyzing household-level transactions data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. The project aims to understand firms' pricing strategies and consumer substitution behavior, with a focus on quantifying the impact of trending business models such as certified trade-in programs and recent policy initiatives such as the right-to-repair legislation.
Role: You will gain hands-on experience with real-world data and keep abreast of the state-of-the-art academic literature as we tackle the most pressing questions of the global economy.
Qualifications: Applicants majoring in Computer Science, Data Science, Economics, IEOR and related fields with an intention to pursue graduate studies (especially PhD) in a quantitative field are welcome.
Preferred skills/coursework: Extensive experience in data analytics with statistical computing packages (such as R, Python, STATA, etc) is preferred. Coursework in econometrics and causal inference is helpful but not necessary.
