Microsurgical Approaches in Mouse Vascular Pathogenesis and Regeneration

Rong Wang, Professor
UC San Francisco

Applications for Spring 2025 are closed for this project.

The vasculature supplies all cells in the body. A dysfunctional vasculature causes myriad diseases, including stroke, arterial occlusive diseases, hemorrhages, and vascular anomalies. Our long-term goal is to understand vessel Pathogenesis and Regeneration and to treat vascular diseases. Our strategy is to understand genes crucial for angiogenesis (new vessel formation) in the normal and diseased states. We employ cutting-edge mouse genetics to delete or express genes in a temporally controllable fashion in vascular cells. We combine these molecular approaches with mouse models of diseases to uncover both the molecular signaling and mechanisms in normal development and disease progression/regression.

Qualifications: Role:
Learn and assist in mouse surgical procedures, including cranial windows, abdomen windows, middle cerebral artery occlusion, hind limb occlusion, carotid ligation, and/or laser doppler perfusion imaging, data acquisition, data analysis, ppt preparation, literature search/summaries/citations. Opportunities to earn authorship in publications.
