Closed (1) Archiving the Collection of Bob Grant, Conservative Talk Radio Host

Closed. This professor is continuing with Spring 2021 apprentices on this project; no new apprentices needed for Fall 2021.

Bob Grant was one of the early conservative media architects, active from the mid-20th century through the early 2000's. Many view him as partially responsible for the misogynistic, homophobic, and racist beliefs that are pervasive in right-wing media and politics today. A collection of his writings, AV recordings, photos, and more was donated to the Center for Right-Wing Studies and needs to be inventoried for further analysis.

This project has to be carried out in person at the CRWS office at 2420 Bowditch St in Berkeley.
The research apprentice will be unpacking the seven boxes of materials and preparing a detailed inventory which will include coding and labeling each item to indicate medium (eg print, photo, audio recording), date, and people/topics.
After the inventory is complete, there is enormous potential for an interested student to carry out research using the archive, in line with their specific interests. Student research can be published in the CRWS working paper series, in addition to being used in a class paper or senior thesis, if desired.
The project is open to students of any major and is likely most appealing to journalism, history, and social science students.
Please note that the materials may include content that is offensive or painful. No one has screened them!
Also, the materials are likely dusty.
