Applications for Fall 2024 are closed for this project.
CALM Program researchers in UC Berkeley's psychology department are seeking a highly-motivated advanced undergraduate (or graduate) student for a volunteer Research Assistant (RA) position to begin in the Fall 2024 semester. Our team conducts multi-method research examining behavioral and biological mechanisms linking emotion-related impulsivity to mental health problems. We aim to recruit an RA to join an ongoing project led by Dr. J.D. Allen (Co-PI) and Professor Sheri Johnson (Co-PI), in which we plan to evaluate a novel intervention for psychiatric disorders. This part-time position is open to all Cal student applicants with at least a 3.0 GPA who possess relevant background (see below) and interest in cognitive or clinical psychological science.
***IMPORTANT: In addition to submitting the application through URAP, please also send a cover letter and CV/academic resume to Dr. J.D. Allen: jd.allen@berkeley.edu
Role: The RA will specifically conduct participant assessment sessions, which will involve learning to administer a neuropsychological test battery as well as to collect and process psychophysiology data.
This position includes opportunities to obtain skills and experience with (1) experimental design; (2) participant recruitment and interviewing; (3) data collection, management, and analysis; as well as (4) dissemination of scholarly products, e.g., conference presentations and manuscripts for peer-review. Additional opportunities focused on software coding/programming may also be available.
We request a time commitment of at least nine hours per week.
Qualifications: Successful applicants will possess strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational abilities; exceptional candidates will also have prior experience conducting psychological or physiological research. We especially encourage applications from students majoring in computer programming, psychology, or neuroscience, in addition to applicants from under-represented groups. Competency with Python programming language is preferred but not required.
Hours: 9-11 hrs
