Computational microscopy
Laura Waller, Professor
Electrical Engineering and Computer Science
Closed. This professor is continuing with Fall 2023 apprentices on this project; no new apprentices needed for Spring 2024.
We are building new microscopes that use computation to do things that microscopes normally can't, like 3D imaging, gigapixel imaging or phase imaging. We need motivated people with some of these (not all required):
1) signal processing experience (EE120) for programming our image processing algorithms in Matlab or C or Python, and/or machine learning tools experience or interest
2) optics background (EE118, Phys 110A)
3) willing to get your hands dirty building things with optics and electronics (no experience necessary in this part). Will work closely with biologists, optics folks who build microscopes and collaborators.
*In addition to this URAP application, please also submit your interest via our group form (sorry for making you duplicate efforts!): https://forms.gle/M4AGjxserKShJkqy8
Role: Writing code, meeting with graduate students, presenting work at group meeting. Possibly, building optical devices in the lab and presenting work at group meetings or conferences.
Qualifications: (helpful but not all required): Python and EE120, Phys 7B, 110A other image processing, machine learning and optimization classes helpful.
Hours: 9-11 hrs
