This is a large-scale clinical trial led by the Golden Bear Sleep & Mood Research Clinic (PI: Dr. Allison Harvey) in the Department of Psychology. The goal of the NIA (National Institute of Aging) study is improve sleep and circadian functioning, daytime functioning, and well-being for midlife and older adults by utilizing a transdiagnostic sleep and circadian treatment.
Role: Description of Student Responsibilities:
We are hiring for four teams.
Team 1 is responsible for qualitative coding of therapy sessions. The student will closely review sessions and code specific sleep-related strategies. This is a great opportunity to gain both clinical and research exposure!
Team 2 is responsible for conducting clinical assessments at multiple timepoints of the study. The student will meet with the participant on Zoom/over the phone, administer test instruments to assess the participant's sleep disturbance, cognitive ability, mental/physical health, etc.
Team 3 is a high-level team responsible for qualitative coding of structured clinical interviews with study participants. Research assistants will gain a direct understanding of clinical presentations while honing analytical skills. This is a fantastic role for people who have or are seeking data experience, as it will be particularly valuable for those who hope to enter a PhD or conduct clinical research.
Team 4 is a high-level team responsible for the data cleaning of key study measures, including sleep diaries and actigraphy. Research assistants will gain a direct understanding of clinical presentations while honing analytical skills. This is a fantastic role for people who have or are seeking data experience, as it will be particularly valuable for those who hope to enter a PhD or conduct clinical research.
Students must be able to commit to around 10 hours of work per week for a minimum of one school year. Some weeks will be lighter than others, but having the flexibility to work 10 hours a week is required.
Qualifications: We are looking for individuals who are self-starters and able to follow written instructions well. You must be organized, punctual, detail-oriented, and responsible.
For the clinical assessment team, we are also looking for great people skills. Past experiences like customer service and retail is highly preferred. Clinical experience is preferred but not required.
You will be supervised by one of the full-time project coordinators in the lab.
The roles are well-suited for students interested in pursuing graduate school (e.g., a PhD in psychology or related fields) or interested in research.
