Environmental Seismology Projects

Taka'aki Taira, Research Staff
Berkeley Seismological Laboratory

Closed. This professor is continuing with Fall 2024 apprentices on this project; no new apprentices needed for Spring 2025.

Berkeley Seismological Laboratory (BSL) operates over 150 seismic stations in Northern California. In addition to detecting signals from earthquakes, there are rich signals from other processes such as ocean wave microseism. There are several projects that use these signals to monitor the dynamics of Earth systems. 1) groundwater recharge systems and 2) geothermal fluid systems. Both projects will require advanced programming skills to analyze large amounts of seismic data.

Qualifications: Organize seismic data, use existing software to analyze seismic data sets. Develop a Python-based code/script to perform automated data analysis.

Previous programming experience (Python) is desirable.

Day-to-day supervisor for this project: Taka'aki Taira, Staff Researcher
