Marin City Climate Resilience is dedicated to safeguarding the environment and promoting sustainability. We focus on implementing strategies to enhance climate resilience and mitigate environmental risks in Marin City, CA. By engaging with the community and advocating for sustainable practices, we aim to create a more resilient and environmentally conscious society. Students will serve as researchers for ongoing projects related to (1) air, water, and soil pollution mitigation and (2) research and design for climate adaptation of key infrastructure.
Role: (Tasks) Students will:
- Be immersed in education and engagement around MCCR priorities during the Fall 2025 semester
- Each student will research and provide a scoping report at the end of the term on the technical, political, and social aspects of the MCCR goals listed in the description
- Meet once per week with the lab staff or faculty advisor to receive direction and feedback on project goals
- Present their findings at a culminating community meeting in Marin City, CA
(Learning Outcomes) Students will:
- Improve their understanding at the intersection of social justice, STEM, and community engagement
- Apply skills gained from undergraduate coursework to real-life scenarios
- Synthesize economic, technical, and political information from external sources to produce a succinct public-facing scoping report on their selected MCCR goal
Qualifications: Students should:
- Demonstrate cultural competency or a strong willingness to learn about Black American history and culture in the United States
- Intermediate-level experience with Python or other data analysis tools
- Have excellent written and oral communication skills
- Be willing to travel for monthly on-site training and meetings
- Have some experience with writing research-driven term papers and reports
